Viking Cues
Viking Cue is one of the oldest and most respected manufacturers of pool cues in America. Founded by Gordon Hart in the early 1960s, Viking Cue Manufacturing, Inc. began modestly with the fabrication of two-piece pool cues in the basement of Gordon's poolroom in Stoughton, Wisconsin. By the end of that decade, as Gordon spent more time making cues, he sold his poolroom and moved the billiard cue manufacturing business to its present location in Madison, Wisconsin. With the positive word of mouth and early rave reviews from pool and billiards players, production expended quickly Viking and began selling pool cues throughout the United States and abroad.
Viking grew steadily and profitably through the 70s and early 80s. At that time, Gordon's children, Robin, Barry and Darcy became involved in the day-to-day operation of the business. When the major motion picture, The Color of Money, was released in 1986, a boom in the billiard industry ensued. Sales of Viking cues increased dramatically, and the company saw record sales growth as a result.
By the mid-90s, Viking Cues brought on a full sales and support team to handle the needs of their constantly growing list of dealers and distributors worldwide. At the same time, Robin and Barry Hart took over the day-to-day operations, and granddaughter Shawna began her involvement with the company. Nancy Hart was also active in the Billiard Congress of America in the 1990's, serving on its board of directors. Years earlier, she became the first female president of the board of the Billiard & Bowling Institute of America. In 1994, Gordon Hart was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Cue Makers Association, the first time this prestigious award had ever been granted.
